Indian Fasting Food: Fast-Vrat-Upvas-Faral

Fasting is very important for Indians. Ashadhi, kartiki ekadashi and Maha Shivratri are the biggest fasting days. on this auspicious day every indian Lady will make verity of food items on everyone's demand. My Mother and Aunts use to make 10 - 15 dishes. It used to be feast for us children. This food items are not regular, they are made only on fasting days. Fasting includes specific ingredients only. Sago, potatoes, peanuts, cilantro (coriander), moraiyo aka samo (vari che tandul or bhagar) amarnath grain (rajgira atta), water chestnuts (singhara ka atta), fruits and dairy like milk, butter, ghee (clarified butter), curds. why this foods only because this all food is easy to digest. Fasting means eating limited and light. Fasting includes staying without food or with very light food for 1 day to 1 month, as per occasion and capacity of the person.
